If you look at the huge array of denim styles available in retail stores, you’ll notice that they’re not necessarily flattering, but rather, they’re just “stylish” and most times, conjure images of 80s denim.

So how do you know which jeans are flattering and which aren’t?

Well first rule of thumb is that even though a jean style may be popular and trendy, it doesn’t mean that it’ll look good on you!

Take for example acid-wash jeans, which were a big staple back in the 80s, but lets be honest, even then, these babies looked sooo unflattering. So if you’re petite or have a bigger booty, stay away from these 80s “trendy” jeans:

Black hair leans toward being dry, due to the tight curl pattern that hinders natural oils from easily making their way down the shaft. If your hair seems dryer than usual, you can work to get the moisture level back up by taking a few pampering steps. For dry (not damaged) hair, you can restore it by following some (or all) of these methods. You won't "fix" your dry hair overnight, but over time and with patience, you'll notice your hair getting softer.

1. Cut Back on Heat Styling

Blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons and hot combs can all cause dryness. Too much heat is damaging, so if you use any of these tools daily or almost daily, cut back to no more than once a week. Experiment with wet sets, wraps and air drying instead. If you can cut out all heat styling, your hair will recover much quicker. Plus, you'll explore gentler options in styling that you might not have tried before.

2. Leave the Color Alone

While hair color agrees with many women, sometimes it can dry your hair out, especially if you're using bleaches to lighten your hair. Put color on top of relaxers and dry hair is the result. Either stick to rinses, which are gentler, or avoid color altogether until your hair is healthier. And when you do return to color, stick to shades that don't vary so much from your natural hair color.

Wear protective styles like braids, cornrows, two-strand twists, flat twists, topknots, buns, chignons and French rolls to keep your ends protected and less prone to dryness and breakage.

4. Protect Your Hair at Night

In addition to wearing protective styles during the day, it's important to protect your hair at night while you sleep. Satin caps and silk or satin pillowcases are much gentler on your hair than cotton pillowcases or scarves. Your hair glides against silky fabrics, while clinging to cotton. Plus, cotton sucks moisture out of your hair, leading once again to, you guessed it, dryness.

5. Rinse and Conditioner Wash

Black hair does better if not shampooed daily. However, if you work out regularly or swim during the summer, you need to rinse perspiration, saltwater or chlorine out. After every dip in the pool or every strenuous workout, rinse your hair thoroughly and follow with a conditioner. Conditioner washes are good in between shampoos for keeping your scalp and hair clean without over-drying with too much sudsing.

6. Condition, Condition, Condition

It's very hard to over-condition black hair, especially if you wear yours natural. Regular deep conditioning can restore the moisture levels you desperately need. For excessively dry hair, deep condition once or twice per week. You don't need a hood dryer for this. You can slather on a good deep conditioner, cover it with a plastic cap and relax around the house for a couple of hours. Wrap it in a towel for additional heat to soften it.

We can’t all wear the same style swimsuits because unfortunately, we all have different shaped bodies. And as much as I would love to pull off some sexy, exotic swimsuits I see on the runways, I have to come to terms that I am not that tall, nor that skinny – so I have to find a swimsuit that fits my shape, not someone elses. Keep reading to see which swimsuit best suits your figure!

Problem 1: Small Bust

We’re not all blessed with a bountiful bust, so we have to make do with whatever we have. To hide a small bust, wear swimsuits with padding (just make sure they look ok once you get wet!), ruffles to add more volume, and prints to distract from the problem area. Also, make sure the colors work in your favor too! Pair a dark bottom with a bright top to make it work.

Problem 2: Large Bust

If you find that you’re spilling out everywhere, you may need to rethink your swimsuit. Did you know that swimsuits actually run 2 sizes smaller than regular clothing? So with that in mind, choose a swimsuit with a built-in bra or an underwire to avoid spillage. Stay away from bandeaus, keyhole, string bikinis and demi-bra styles.

Problem 3: Belly Bulge

I love this post from wikiHow on how to make fake blood for Halloween. This is the best mix of recipes I've seen so far because it shows you a non-toxic version, a toxic (more authentic) Hollywood movie set version, an edible version for cakes, splatter blood (ha!) and even blood for art.

Here's my friend Susan's version of non-toxic blood that I'll be using this year for my Tippi Hedren from "The Birds" costume:

Arrowroot powder (or corn starch, but Arrowroot makes for a less clumpy mixture)

white corn syrup

water

basic red and blue food coloring (green works too if you don't have blue)

Start with a cup of corn syrup in a bowl. Stir in a tablespoon of Arrowroot powder or cornstarch. Slowly add in water (up to 1/3 cup) until you get the perfect consistency of blood. This is your base.

To add the dye, add a few drops of red food coloring, stirring it in until you have a bright red color. Add a couple drops of blue or green food color to make the "blood" look more authentic. Set aside to thicken, then apply to face, clothes or body. Warning: This fake blood will stain clothing!

You like your hair straight, but you're looking for alternatives to pressing, ironing or relaxing to get that glossy mane you want. Maybe you want to try a keratin treatment, which has become increasingly popular in recent years. Known by several different names, including Brazilian Keratin Treatment (BKT for short, a

n acronym you'll often see on various hair forums) and Brazilian straightening treatment, as well as various brand names, this is the newest craze for getting silky straight hair. Is a BKT suitable for black hair and if so, what can you expect?

"Natural":

Brazilian straightening treatments don't have the tried-and-true chemicals you'll find in typical black hair relaxers, such as sodium hy

droxide or calcium hydroxide, or chemicals you'll find in curling perms like ammonium thioglycolate. Your hair is straightened with the active ingredient keratin, a protein very like one of the components of human hair. Keratin works to "naturally" straighten the hair. Fans of the treatment claim that it actually strengthens the hair since keratin is so similar to hair's natural protein.

Previously Processed Hair:

Anyone who relaxes her hair knows that some coloring processes are especially harsh on top of already processed hair. You also can't apply a relaxer to previously relaxed hair without worry of overprocessing. However, a keratin treatment works well on colored, highlighted or previously processed hair.

Time and Cost:

Expect a keratin treatment to take at least a couple of hours to complete, from beginning to end. It's not cheap and depending on where you live, you may find a wide range in price, but expect to pay anywhere between $150 - $350. A stylist applies a keratin solution to your hair, much as she would hair color. Hair is blown dry and then sealed with extreme temperatures of up to 450 degrees. The hot iron is required to seal the formula into the hair's cuticle.

How Long it Lasts:

Unlike relaxers and curly perms, a keratin treatment gradually washes away. You'll notice your hair's natural curl return over time, anywhere from six weeks to a few months. To get the longest lasting results, use shampoos that have a neutral pH.

What to Expect:

For the first several days after the treatment, you won't be able to wash your hair or get it wet. A secure hair c

over while in the shower or bath is essential. During this time period, you also won't be able to exercise because sweating is out, as is putting any kind of product on your hair. In addition, for these few days, you can't put your hair into a ponytail, pin it up or even tuck it behind your ears as that will lead to kinks that will stick in your hair. Your hair may be so straight immediately following the treatment that it lacks body, but in time, some volume will return.

Results:

As with all hair products or treatments, everyone won't get the same results. While a great degree of the results depends on the competence of your stylist, much also depends on your hair type. Some women will get super sleek hair that has no wave to it until the treatment begins to wear off. Other women will see a lessening of frizz with no real straightening, unless they use a flat iron when styling. If you're seeking bone straight locks, you may be disappointed, but if you're looking for an easier way to manage your hair without worrying about how straight it turns out, a keratin treatment may be for you.

Caution:

One of the biggest concerns with a keratin treatments is that some of the brands it's marketed under contain formaldehyde (yes, the same solution used to embalm dead bodies). Some of these formaldehyde containing formulas aren't approved by the FDA. Others may tell you that they're formaldehyde-free, but still contain trace amounts (minimal enough to legally claim them formaldehyde-free). Also, 450 degrees is extreme heat to place on the hair, especially since the flat iron has to make several passes to thoroughly seal in the treatment. If you're pregnant or nursing, you should not have a keratin treatment.

Before You Commit:

If you're considering the treatment, ask around before making an appointment anywhere. Get recommendations; even if your best friend in the whole wide world says that she got the best BKT ever from her stylist, go in for a consultation armed with questions. If the stylist doesn't want to answer your questions, is abrupt or catches an attitude because you dare to question him, leave and look for another salon for your keratin treatment. This is your precious hair we're talking about; if you're not concerned about its health, why should anyone else be?
